About the multiplication chart 1–12
A multiplication chart 1–12 shows every times-table fact from 1×1 up to 12×12 in one grid: find the first factor down the side, the second across the top, and the product where the row and column meet. The highlighted diagonal marks the square numbers (1, 4, 9 … 144), a handy landmark because the grid mirrors itself across it — once a child knows 3×8, they know 8×3. Most schools expect fluency to 12×12, which makes this the standard reference chart for grades 3–5.
Frequently asked questions
How do you read a multiplication chart?
Find the first number in the left column and the second number in the top row. Slide across and down — the product is the cell where they meet. For 7×8, row 7 meets column 8 at 56.
Why are the diagonal squares shaded?
The shaded diagonal marks the square numbers — 1, 4, 9, 16 up to 144. The chart is symmetrical either side of it, which halves what a child needs to memorise.
Is this multiplication chart free to print?
Yes — print it, download the PDF or PNG, and photocopy as many as you need for home or classroom use. No account or sign-up.
